Congratulations to Mr Mikołaj Kłoczewski, who successfully defended his bachelor’s thesis, entitled ‘How artificial intelligence might help in infertility treatment?’, on 29 July. The thesis was supervised by Katarzyna Krawczyk, PhD, and reviewed by Iwona Grabowska-Kowalik, PhD, DSc.

The aim of Mr Mikołaj Kłoczewski’s thesis was to present the current applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. This topic is particularly timely due to the rapid development of predictive models and the growing importance of AI-based tools in reproductive medicine. The thesis provides an overview of the fundamental aspects of infertility, including its definition, the most common causes, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and assisted reproductive technologies. The main part of the thesis focuses on the application of AI in selecting ovarian stimulation protocols and on the analysis of oocyte and embryo images using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to assess their quality and developmental potential. The thesis also discusses the limitations, challenges, and ethical considerations associated with the implementation of AI in clinical practice. It concludes with a discussion of the future prospects of AI in reproductive medicine. The author suggests that the most likely direction of future development is a collaborative model in which artificial intelligence supports clinical decision-making, while the final interpretation and responsibility remain with the clinician.
